Description & Process

Customizing the rear valences on a 1968 Camaro is a process that blends creativity, precision, and craftsmanship to enhance both the vehicle’s aesthetic and aerodynamic performance. The rear valence, a panel located beneath the rear bumper, serves as a key styling element, often tailored to reflect the owner’s unique vision. The process begins with careful planning, including selecting the desired materials, such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, or sheet metal, depending on the intended look and durability. A thorough inspection of the existing rear valence is essential to assess its condition and compatibility with the planned modifications.

Next, the old valence is carefully removed, which may involve detaching the rear bumper and any associated fasteners. Proper care is taken to avoid damage to adjacent components. The customization phase begins by cutting, reshaping, or fabricating the new valence to achieve the desired contours and features. This may include adding vents, integrating exhaust outlets, or designing a custom diffuser for a modern, aggressive appearance. If the design involves modifications to the bodywork, precise measurements and trial fittings ensure a seamless integration.

The new valence is then prepped for painting or finishing, which includes sanding and applying primer to ensure a smooth surface. Custom paint or coatings can be applied to match or contrast with the car’s body color, adding a unique touch. After the paint has cured, the valence is securely mounted back onto the vehicle, ensuring all fasteners are tightened and properly aligned. Wiring for additional features, such as integrated lighting, is connected at this stage if applicable.

Finally, the customization is polished and inspected to ensure it meets the highest standards of quality and functionality. The finished rear valence not only enhances the 1968 Camaro’s classic lines but also personalizes it, creating a distinctive presence on the road or at car shows.
